What is ubec and sbec

So, although a simple BEC is easy to use, it is inefficient and expends useful power. In addition to this, BECs can't really be used with bigger batteries with higher voltages. This is because the higher voltage would make the BEC far too hot and it would fail electronics don't like heat.

They are, therefore, only usable in the small stuff. It works by using a switching, alternating current to step down your battery voltage to a safe 5v for your RC gear.

Virtually no power wasted by the SBEC and you can still run large amounts of power through it. A capacitor and coil smooth out the average of the switching current and allow the RC gear to run on a consistent voltage. A universal battery eliminator circuit, for all intents and purposes, is the same thing as an SBEC.

It uses a switching regulator to control the voltage to your vital electronics. Increasingly, UBEC is being used as the standard term.

It really depends on what power system you're thinking of using. For most applications, you can get away with using a simple ESC which handles everything for you. Editor of FliteTest. I currently have one motor with BEC connected to FC and all others are without bec, would this cause any problems? Otherwise you could potentially have ESC sync issue.

Where do you put a UBEC if you have opto esc. Or between the Battery and the Flight Controller? Please help me out if that is possible Gerry van Grevenhof Gvang gmail. Gus 4th March - am Best article I have read on the matter. Or have I Totally misread the article. Using 3s batteries. Thanks in advance. Alexandros 11th September - pm Hi i want to use a 4 in 1 esc without bec i have to buy Ubec or bec and connect it or i can fly my project without bec, ubec?

Will it run the BLDC motor without problems? Oscar 3rd October - pm yes that should work :. Oscar 26th August - pm Yes you can, as long as the voltage and current rating meets the requirement. Adam U. Thank you. LV Chong.

Oscar 22nd February - am yes that should be fine, just make sure it can provide enough current for your devices. Tom 3rd August - am I currently have one motor with BEC connected to FC and all others are without bec, would this cause any problems? An inherent drawback of these regulators is a slightly oscillating output voltage the technical term for that is ripple : Different switchers smooth it out to varying degrees one of the best ways is to stick a separate linear regulator after the switching one , but it's usually still there even after smoothing.
