You have entered an incorrect email address! Welcome to the different car review website! Im thinking of renewing my car in the next couple months and now that i earn a little more money, i was debating on treating myself to an E63 or an E55 i like them both! Is this a stupid idea?? Is that sort ot millage good for that car? I havent really seen any major mechanical issues on them only usual W issues like SBC pumps!
Also my insurance has taken a big tumble so thats also another reason. So am i just looking into somthing thats just gonna capsize my bank account or somthing thats fast fun and ralible! Wighty Senior Member. What age and budget you looking at buddy? Wighty said:. Click to expand Adamki83 said:. So age around 07 upwards and budget around 12k! That would be for an E63 obviously! I'm sure plenty of people will add their experience of these cars later , I've not had either.
I would certainly read up on ABC suspension and the related costs so you understand some of the possible downsides. John Laidlaw Senior Member. GordonTarling Senior Member. Website www. I bought my E63 about a year ago and haven't regretted it yet! I paid to have it inspected the day after I bought it and the only thing found was corroded front disks. It was MOT'd yesterday and the tester told me he'd never seen such a clean one underneath, so all good there.
Other things I've had done are two new rear tyres and rear brake pads replaced. It only had 55k miles on it when I bought it, so little chance to wear anything out. Inside, there's a new steering wheel with larger paddle shifters and the latest iteration of the company's MBUX infotainment system. The long roof version of the E63 S costs several thousand dollars more than its sedan equivalent , but its added practicality and—in our opinion—sharper styling make it worth the upcharge. Our preferred AMG wagon would be equipped with a handful of options that inflate the bottom line even more, but they'd solidify its luxury status and maximize our appreciation.
These include the Exterior Lighting package automatic high-beams and adaptive headlight illumination , the Warmth and Comfort package heated front armrests, a heated steering wheel, and rapid-heating for the front cushions , and the Acoustic Comfort package that brings sound-deadening materials to keep the cabin extra quiet.
Our favorite individual options include the head-up display, massaging front seats, three-zone climate control, and soft-close doors. This setup helped the superwagon we tested explode to 60 mph in 3. Consider this: the much lighter and similarly powerful Mercedes-AMG GT R sports car we tested was actually slightly slower to 60 mph and only similarly quick in the quarter-mile.
Other AMG upgrades on the E63 S wagon versus the regular Mercedes-Benz E-class wagon include a sport-tuned suspension, bigger brakes, and a rear-drive-only mode that enables ass-out antics. Every version boasts an adjustable air suspension that adjusts the ride quality, but the softest setting still feels firm.
However, we haven't driven one with the retuned suspension yet, which Mercedes says will improve ride comfort. Still, the E63's communicative steering and impressive braking ability—70 mph to zero in only feet—confirm its high-performance pedigree.
The E63 is a step up from pre 06 cars in that that was the year of the facelift for the W and the SBC brake pump was dropped for the traditional set up. If you don't mind a silver one, a forum member is selling a very well looked after example that may suit you. Plenty of owners of both models are members here.
Don't discount the CLS either. A very "pretty" car but only two seats in the rear if that makes a difference. Welcome Aside from throwing the preverbal hand grenade into your first post 55 vs 63 debate , I echoe the sentiments posted above. Use the search bar up in the top left and you will be surprised to see the wealth of info on here, from failed SBC pumps to upgraded engine mods and everything inbetween.
I used to own a black CLS 55 with cashmere interior, very few mods, but absolutely loved it. Find a decent one of either model will be your greatest challenge, but one you will definitely not regret! Thanks for the replies. I've looked around and seen some of the issues already but good to bear in mind.
I think the CLS is a good looking car and one I'd rather like as with 2 kids seats the E will only be a 4 seater anyway. Unfortunately not in a position to seriously look yet I'm just trying to see what's what at this stage. The CLS never gets mistaken for a taxi More seriously the CLS has a much stiffer body and IMHO is quieter inside when cruising and in standard form much gruffer under acceleration. Those who have owned both a 55k and a 6.
DavidL Active Member. Pros and cons. Both are old enough to though up big bills. I don't feel the 55 has a great sounding engine but the 63 is better.
Both have airmatic so potential bills there. The is supposed to be a bit more reliable electronically. There are a few 6. The 63 NA car is a harder prospect. CLS is a great looking car, slightly less practical and there is no cls55 estate.
Personally as a fairly regularly used car they would be great but as weekend car for 4 I might be looking at a maserati or a gransport, even a granturismo with budget creep am I allowed to say that?
Get a good one and you'll love either. Deleted member Guest. E55 or XFR 2. CLS55 3. E63 But any one of those four would be a cracking ownership experience, whatever your choice. I also prefer more, shall we say 'discreet', cars, and the 6. Quetzalcoatl Active Member. I only have experience of the CLS and have owned mine as a daily for about a year now. It's a very capable cruiser, refined if a little stiff on the 19 inch alloys.
