Hi, I just replaced my old hdd to a Sandisk Ultra 3D 1tb. I contacted Sandisk customer service, before I decided, and they said the ssd is compatible with my Mackbook Pro early edition. Did not want load. I thought the hdd cable is bad. Tried to put my old hdd, and everything went fine.
Please advise. Thank you, Peter. Please let me know. Read more here. Hi team, I want to upgrade my Macbook Pro as well as start from scratch. I have a lot of old Apps that I want to remove and think just starting from scratch would be easier. What should I do differently as part of the upgrade process? You may go ahead with the upgrade and reinstall your MacOS. Read here. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment.
While the specifications of each of these Macs is different, the actual architecture of them is similar enough that the same rules apply when it comes to taking them apart and upgrading them. Any 2. Safety first though!
Read on for details. Before you get started with any hard drive swapout, please make sure to back up your MacBook Pro. Time Machine backups can also be used to restore the contents of your Mac onto the new hard drive relatively easily. Click the Erase button. Click Erase. Choose your SSD drive as the destination. Select your currently installed hard drive as the source. This will take a while, so go hydrate or find something else to do while your Mac copies files from the hard drive to the SSD.
Once this is done, your new SSD has all the files of your old hard disk. Shut your Mac down. Again the iFixIt link I provided earlier should give you an idea on what drives work.
May 23, PM. Page content loaded. You don't have to buy their offering, but you can, at least, get an idea on which ones work with your specific Apple notebook. I recently replaced a failed HD on my MacBook with one of their SSD solution packages and have been very satisfied with both the ease of doing so, and more importantly, with its performance over the original drive.
The Sandisk should work fine. Although many people have success with the EVO, I've heard of more than its share of issues. I don't know why that would be, but if you search these forums, you'll find these cases. Personally, I wouldn't take the chance on the EVO. Would I need to install extra software to get the MacBook to read the Sandisk? I'm absolutely clueless about this and just wondering what difficulties beyond the physical installation that I might run into if I buy one direct from Amazon rather than from a dedicated specialist such as OWC.
Tesserax - thank you so much for taking the time to give me this detailed info. That is so helpful and exactly what this noob was after! I really appreciate your help. I did go with one of the OWC units for that. I also believe that the drive interface on this notebook is SATA. Ref: Apple Specifications - Apple Support. Wish I had read Tesserax' instructions first! Step 5. Step 6. Step 7. Step 8 Hard Drive. Almost done! To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order. You're Finished!
