Only cost me something like 10p a can as well. Are you honestly suggesting Stout is not a viable part of the beer family? I personally think Guiness is a shitty stout but calling it a non-beer is just serious disinformation. It has water, grains, hops and yeast. End of Story I can prove you wrong with a Etch-a-Sketch in 3 minutes. With that said, there are very few beers that I buy that don't do better after a couple of months or years on a cool, dark shelf.
Most bottle-conditioned beers do very nicely with aging. We should add that some beers are made with a Champagne yeast. Mostly Barley Wines. These beers actually do get better with age. I have seen individual bottles of this beer go for 5 bucks a bottle at beer stores.
Beer in a can is less likely to go bad than beer in a bottle due to a bottle is more likely to let air in. Isn't most "Guinness" sold in the States also brewed, packaged, and distributed in the States? I know that very often other "import" beers are bottled locally. Not really, but God, I love that stuff. Yes, beer does go bad. Light hitting the beer makes it skunk read: taste like Heineken , which is bad. Cans shouldn't have that problem, but IIRC, repeated heating and cooling do about the same thing.
Friends of mine moved into an apartment many years ago, and there was a case of Heineken in the basement free beer w00t! Well, these guys, not being big beer fans, put a couple bottles in the fridge as a joke.
The phrase "oh, can I grab a beer out of the fridge" was a cue for people to show up in the kitchen and watch the poor soul take his first drink then run over to the sink to spit it out and yell something like "god that's awful! Then there was the person who took a sip, and said "hey, this is pretty good! I'm not sure if he was fucking with us or just really ignorant.
Second dibs! My Bigfoot is sorta like Charlton Hestons Guns Go to Ireland, etc Yup, Satan just said He must be coming here! Bah, Guinness IS crap. It tastes like a wet loaf of bread and is only slighly more potent than American rice beers.
Honestly, who the fuck cares how potent it is? Get a fucking bottle of rum or tequila - that'll floor you fast. If you want something you can just drink, that's what beer is for. Drinking beer is to enjoy the taste and to cop a buzz, however slight. CellarGimp Initiate 0 Sep 14, Missouri.
Worst case scenario it may have developed some flavor. Thickfreakness , libbey , Hanzo and 3 others like this. Thank you for the info, I'll have one when I get home tonight, and let you all know. MaxSpang Disciple Jan 28, Ohio.
Bring this to the tasting on Friday if it's good, haha. I remember splitting a six'er of the th anniversary stout about 3 years ago with some friends. Hmmmm, I wonder if the bottle I stashed away was full or empty Voted safe to drink. I'm hoping it doesn't get me sick to my stomach I'm going to get a fresh Guinness after work so I can compare the two.
Garlicjosh Initiate 0 Jan 17, Pennsylvania. Unopened liquor has an indefinite shelf life. Opened liquor lasts about a year or two before it goes bad—meaning it starts losing its color and flavor. The simple answer is yes, the beer is still good insofar as it is safe to drink. How the beer will taste is another matter. The beer will not be bad in the sense that its unsafe to drink, since no harmful pathogens grow once the beer is fully fermented.
The primary packaging code is found on the bottle or can itself. Pull date locations for bottles vary by brand, and may be found on the neck label, shoulder of the bottle or back label.
